12 Days of Money, Mind and Meaning
If there’s one thing that quietly drains people’s energy, emotional wellbeing and financial clarity, it’s the relentless list of “shoulds.”

“I should be saving more.”
“I should know this by now.”
“I should be further ahead.”
“I should feel more in control.”
“I should be able to handle everything.”
“I should, I should, I should.”
Shoulds sneak into your mind disguised as motivation, but they work more like pressure. They tighten your chest, push your nervous system into threat mode and fuel guilt-driven decisions - the kind that aren’t grounded, stable or aligned with your real values.
The truth is empowering:
Most of your shoulds aren’t even yours.
Many come from:
• childhood messages about being “good”
• cultural expectations
• family patterns
• work environments that reward “stretching”
• social media comparison
• outdated beliefs about what success “should” look like
• gendered expectations around ”taking care” and ”taking charge”
• financial narratives that never included women in the first place
No wonder they feel heavy.
Shoulds shout over your true needs.
They drown out your intuition.
They create shame in places where compassion is needed.
And they lead to reactive financial habits, such as overspending, avoidance, people-pleasing, over-giving, or trying to buy your way back into control.
Day 5 is about releasing the pressure and returning to choice.
Because choice is where your agency lives.
Choice is where your confidence grows.
Choice is where financial wellbeing begins.
Today’s practice
Write down one “should” that weighs on you.
Now rewrite it as a choice:
“I choose…”
“I need…”
“I value…”
“Right now, what supports me is…”
This single shift moves you from pressure to intention, from guilt to clarity.
And clarity is the strongest foundation for confidence, wellbeing and empowered money decisions.
Tomorrow, we explore emotional triggers and the HALT pattern - and why most budgets break at 10pm, not because of willpower, but because you're human.
